FAQs

  • What is the process of a root canal?

The process generally follows these steps:

    1. Diagnosis

    2. Local Anesthesia

    3. Accessing Infected Pulp

    4. Cleaning and Shaping Canals

    5. Filling In Canals & Sealing Tooth

  • How long does a root canal typically take to perform?

Depending on how complex one's specific case may be (i.e., number/shape of roots involved), root canals usually take anywhere from 1-2 hours on average from start to finish with multiple steps included along way such as numbing shots given prior & then removing/shaping/sealing affected areas as well as potential placement crown afterwards if deemed necessary by dentist doing procedure itself.

  • What can I expect during and after the procedure?

During the root canal procedure, your dentist will apply a local anesthetic to numb the area around where they are working in your mouth. Then they will drill through the top of your tooth to make an opening so that they can reach down into its roots. They'll then use specialized tools to remove any diseased dental pulp and shape the internal space of your affected tooth. Once this is done, they'll fill it with an inert material (gutta percha), which helps protect against further infection and decay within your tooth.

Once this process is complete, you may experience some sensitivity after as swelling reduces in surrounding tissues as well as general discomfort during eating for several days following treatment. It's important to take over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen or paracetamol if needed during this period in order to ease any discomfort you may feel. Your dentist may also recommend rinsing with warm saltwater several times daily for up to one week following treatment which can help reduce soreness too!
